James R. Halverson
Jim was born and raised in Billings, Montana. He graduated from Billings Senior High, Montana State University, and the University of Montana School of Law. His parents taught him the value of hard work on their farm south of Billings, where his dad was raised and his family homesteaded. Jim takes great pride in his family and profession. He and his wife, Liz, have thoroughly enjoyed raising their three sons and actively participating in their various interests and activities.
Jim has remained with the same law firm which gave him early opportunities beginning in 1983 to assume full responsibilities for a wide range of cases. His practice developed into a broad base of civil litigation ranging from insurance defense, agriculture, construction, fire loss, insurance coverage, premises liability, products liability and insurance bad faith. He has had the privilege of representing persons and insurance companies across the four corners of this state, and does so today.
Our Firm takes great pride in promptly recognizing the needs and interests of our clients, and then advising them of their options, pro and con, so that the client can make an informed decision on how to go forward. We partner with our clients to achieve the most efficient and cost effective outcome, and where our opponent is unwilling to compromise, we fairly and aggressively work to bring the case to successful conclusion by trial or motion.
Jim’s trial experience by most measures in Montana is considerable. A sample of cases where he has been lead or sole attorney at trial as reported by the independent Montana Law Week may be viewed at Trial Experience/Decisions and Recent Verdicts. The cases include successful verdicts involving automobile claims, bad faith, fire, products liability, employment law, construction, agriculture and a variety of other cases.
Jim is admitted to Montana State and Federal Courts, the Ninth Circuit Court, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of a variety of legal associations including Defense Research Institute, and has been selected as a member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance.
